What happens when economics and politics collide? Who wins and who loses? Join us as we welcome the infamous Yalie who predicted the collapse of ERCOT years ago. Ed Hirs, who earned his BA, MA in Economics, and MBA from Yale, is the founder and chair of the Yale Alumni in Energy conference—now in its 16th year (March 27 & 28, 2025).

Ed is also a co-founder of Zero Carbon Cycle LLC, a renewable fuels startup. He teaches at the University of Houston and previously taught at Rice and Yale. Ed will discuss the history of energy markets research and why ERCOT was doomed to failure from its beginning—and the necessary solution. You can learn more about Ed at his LinkedIn and website.

This event is free, but please consider donating to the club to cover the cost of wine and snacks. You can donate to the Yale Club of Austin on Zelle by adding the following number to your Zelle contacts: (512) 541-5181.
